Description

The project consortium contains five research institutions, IAV, ENIT, TTZ+TUB and IAMB which are located, respectively, in Morocco, Tunisia, Germany and Italy, and one International Organisation (ICARDA). These partners complement each other by representing all the expertise which is necessary to accomplish the CYCLER-SUPPORT study : greenhouse architecture, water - and wastewater recycling, irrigation and nutrition science, crop science and crop markets, thermodynamics, horticulture science, environmental impact assessment, etc.

Especially two of the partners, namely IAMB and ICARDA, manage different strong international MED-networks related to water problems in the Mediterranean dry areas, including research organisations, water authorities, greenhouse producers, agriculturists, politicians, NGOs, and others. Based on these networks and beyond, they will involve in the project relevant stakeholders by disseminating generated results and by inviting them to the final
CYCLER-SUPPORT-Worshop, which is as well foreseen to build up first practical implementation teams. Besides, all the other project partners will inform their project related contacts and networks in order to reach a much broad range of stakeholders as possible.

By a close co-operation, mutual know-how exchange and the common development of socioeconomical and environmental sustainable implementation strategies the partners intent to develop a win-win situation for both, the European and for the MPC crop markets, and based on water-cycling greenhouse architecture.

IAV does have an important scientific infrastructure : 30 departments, about 60 laboratories, three experiment stations (in the Gharb, Tadla and Souss).

Two campuses are operational : the major one is located in Rabat and does provide the training in the fields of agronomy, veterinary medicine, topography, food science and nutrition, agricultural engineering and fisheries, the second on of Agadir is mainly oriented toward horticulture and landscape architecture. IAV does contribute to the international science dissemination through the organization of international seminars, conferences and workshops. The overall objective of IAV is to serve a sustainable rural and agricultural development of Morocco and even in Africa.

This mission is ccomplished through a number of actions like continuing education, technical support and services, or outreach and transfer of know how and technologies. IAV does have a wide range of international collaborations with higher education and research institutions in Europe (France, Belgium, UK, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, etc.), in the US (Minnesota, Michigan, California, Utah, Colorado, Texas, etc.) and in Africa (Tunisia, Algeria, Mauritania,
sub-Saharan African Countries, etc.).

TTZ - Bremerhaven, Germany

Technology Transfer Centre Bremerhaven, Germany (TTZ)

The Technology Transfer Center Bremerhaven (TTZ) is a research institution established in 1987 in Bremerhaven (Germany). It operates in applied R&D in the two fields "Futur Technologies : Water-Energy-Landscape" and "Food quality and safety".

Research topics are e.g. integrated water - and nutrient management, controlled wastewater irrigation in short rotation plantations, efficient energy use in reenhouses, or unconventional crops for energy production, or as raw materials for the building material sector, or for the chemical industry. TTZ has about 100 highly skilled international academic employees (scientists and engineers) and an annual turnover of around 8 million Euros. Since its foundation, TTZ has successfully co-operated with SMEs, RTDs, IAGs, NGOs and other organisations at regional, national and EU level in more than 300 R&D projects, both, as project co-ordinator and partner.

Examples of projects related to the proposed project are : GREENERGY (Collective Research), BIOPOROS (Collective Research), WACOSYS (CRAFT), LADAS (Asia Pro Eco), INAWAB (Asia Pro Eco). Besides scientific-technical services, TTZ offers additional support in marketing and project fund raising.

ENIT

Ecole Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Tunis, Tunisie (ENIT)

ENIT is the first Engineering school of Tunisia created in 1968.

The Polytechnic School is ensuring 250 graduates by year in many fields. At the national level, ENIT collaborates with industries and other research organisations. Moreover, it is involved in many international networks such as : Med Campus, AUPELE, AUF, UREF, PRICAT, etc.

One of the principal activities of ENIT is to undertake research in the fields of solar energy building construction, heat transfer, environmental technologies, sustainable water treatment, etc. A new doctorate field was integrated since 2002 with the main subject which is solar desalination and decentralized water treatment.

The Solar Energy Laboratory (Laboratoire d'Energie Solaire), which will take part in the
CYCLER-SUPPORT project, can be characterized as the most innovative laboratory in ENIT regarding scientific novelties.
