WP4 : Investigating potential economical valuable crops
(Leader : TTZ)

>> Work Program

Objectives

  • To investigate potential economical valuable crops which are useful for biological wastewater treatment and in addition to it economical valuable.

Tasks

This workpackage will be accomplished in parallel to WP2 and WP3 and includes  :

  • the assessment of non conventional species/non-food plants that are suitable to treat wastewater. This includes for example hydro-culture crops, crops like cattail and reed, woody crops and others. The potential of indigenous crops will particularly be focused. (accomplished by IAV and TTZ)
  • the investigation of the market potential of listed crops for export and inland supply, e.g. renewable raw material for the energy production, for the textile industry, for the chemical industry, or as construction material. For this, TTZ will contact its broad European "unconventional-crop-network", which includes stakeholders from the chemical industry, the renewable energy market and from the renewable construction material market. IAV will assess the potential market applications for the MPC markets. (accomplished by TTZ and IAV)

All the other partners will give input and use their networks to complete the list of economical valuable crops.

Deliverables

D13 : List of crops that are suitable for biological wastewater treatment.
D14 : Assessment report about potential markets of the different crops.

Milestones and expected results

M04 : Overview on the market potential of unconventional crops that are suitable for biological wastewater treatment.
